Digital Law

Introduction

Today, I am blogging about digital citizenship, specifically digital law in Mrs. Moncus' finance academy class. Digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use. I feel this is an important topic everyone should have knowledge of. If everyone is aware of the dangers of digital law, some of the problems people have with hacking, identity theft, and more could decrease greatly. Most of my information is from a digital citizenship website that Mike Ribble published and wrote.

Nine Themes of Digital Citizenship
  1. Digital Access- full electronic participation in society
  2. Digital Commerce- electronic buying and selling of goods
  3. Digital Communication- exchange of information on the internet
  4. Digital Literacy- learning and teaching about technology
  5. Digital Etiquette- conduct or procedure online
  6. Digital Law- responsibility for actions and deeds online
  7. Digital Rights and Responsibility- freedoms in digital world
  8. Digital Health and Wellness- well-being in digital world
  9. Digital Security- precautions for safety online
Focus

The theme I chose to talk about is digital law. Digital law is your responsibility for actions and deeds online. Digital law has to do with copyrighted information, identity theft, and hacking. Whatever you do while online, you are responsible for it. Just because you are doing it in a digital world does not mean it does not matter. Copyrighting information is downloading illegal music, movies, essays, and more without permission. Plagiarism is included in copyrighting. If you download an essay and turn it in as your own work, you are committing plagiarism and copyrighting information. Identity theft is when you steal someone's personal information and pretend to be them. It is becoming a major problem in the world today. It is the biggest problem for people around the ages of 19 to late 20s. You can access their money, security cards, and more. Hacking is when you use a computer to gain unauthorized information in a data system. People can hack into bank accounts and any other personal accounts someone way have. A lot of people hack into instagram, facebook, or any other account people post things on. The hackers will take over the account and pretend to be that person. These are the main items digital law is associated with.

Article/Story

In this article, Kellie Droste is a victim of identity theft. A person had stolen her personal information and filed a tax refund in her name. He had filed it under her social security number. She realized and
filed the fraud. They told her it would take six months to get her money.

Identity theft is becoming a major problem in the world today. It is the biggest problem for people around the ages of 19 to late 20s. Identity theft is when you steal someone’s personal information and pretend to be them. You can access their money, security cards, and more.

To prevent this problem, you need to be extremely careful about what you put out on the internet and who you tell. Identity thieves can access your information in the simplest of ways. You should shred personal or important information when you are done and check you banking account frequently.
